The government, other public authorities and industry are collaborating on the Beter Benutten ('Optimising Use') platform to improve accessibility on water, roads and railways in the busiest areas of the Netherlands . The initial objective was to reduce traffic jams in these busiest areas by 20 percent in 2014 and a package of more than 300 practical, measurable steps were identified to reach this target. On the basis of the first positive results, the project will continue and will receive a 600 million Euro investment from the Ministry and other public authorities for the period 2014 to 2017. The aim is to reduce door to door travel time in the busiest areas in peak hour traffic by 10 percent. This means a widening of the Beter Benutten project objectives.
Our roleTo Interface is acting on behalf of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment in the capacity of advisor and contract manager in the Beter Benutten platform. The areas that To Interface is covering include a number of Spitsmijden (traffic reduction) projects; the creation of traffic nodes and P&R (park and ride) sites; management and supervision of other public authorities; embedding the Beter Benutten method in MIRT Review (Multiannual Programme for Infrastructure, Space and Transport); and the wider mobility policy such as the national package of improvement policies. In 2014, we also took on the role of change manager in marketing and tenders.
