PROJECT NAME
Rotterdam power plant
CLIENT
Visser & Smit Bouw BV (VolkerWessels subsidiary)
FUNCTION
Tender manager and project manager
PERIOD
2008-2013 (tender and completion phase)
An ultra modern power plant is being built in Rotterdam, commissioned by GDF Suez Energy Nederland. One part of the plant will run on coal and the other part on biomass. The plant has a production capacity of 800 MW which will provide power to about 1.3 million households a year. During the tender, a contract was jointly developed for the engineering and building of architectural and civil engineering work. The Design & Construct contract, which had the hallmark of a coalition, was for the value of over 200 million Euros.
Our role As the representative of Visser & Smit Bouw, To Interface was responsible during the tender for the integrated management of the tender team, the contract development and negotiations with GDF Suez Energy Nederland. Having successfully been awarded the assignment, To Interface – on behalf of Visser & Smit Bouw – took on the role of project manager. In this role To Interface was responsible for managing the engineering, preparation and completion. Our focus in particular was on the collaboration with the client and the coordination of the various sub-contractors. We also took on the role of quality coordinator during completion. We were responsible for the development and implementation of the project quality control; producing and implementing new procedures; carrying out audits and suppliers’ audits; the communication among members of the project team, the client and the sub-contractors to ensure the quality of construction.
